But do you feel safe?

You guessed it: my Mum! However, it's a good question and the answer is yes I do. I actually cycle just under ten miles to work, seven of which are along country roads. I always wear a helmet and a high visibility waistcoat which means I'm very noticeable.

I've also learned that the thing to do is ride where I'd normally position the inside wheel of my car. This means I'm not in the gutter, trying to avoid potholes and drain covers etc. It also means that drivers give me a wide berth. I think not being in the gutter ensures no one thinks there might be enough room to squeeze past and so they either pass me with plenty of room or slow down and wait until it's clear. If they do this, I always acknowledge their consideration with a wave or thumbs up.

More DIY!

I've been very pleasantly surprised this weekend. I've undertaken a fairly physical DIY project. Normally I'm knackered by midday if I do something like this and need a week to get over it. This weekend however, I found I was nowhere near as tired and, to the surprise of my lady love, was raring to complete the project on Sunday. Is it down to cycling to work? I don't know but I'm certainly a lot fitter and it's showing in everyday life.

Of course the problem now is that the list of projects is, as I write this, being revised. So clearly I need to get out on the bike more at weekends. Which made me think...
